Plans to merge SAA, SAX, Mango announced

Steps are being taken to merge South African Airways, SA Express and Mango, Public Enterprises Minister Pravin Gordhan said during a media briefing on board appointments of State-Owned Enterprises in the Department of Public Enterprises portfolio in Parliament yesterday (May 24).

On Thursday (May 24), the South African Civil Aviation Authority announced that it had grounded SA Express over ‘severe cases of non-compliance that pose serious safety risks’.

Gordhan explained that the three airlines currently operated flights to the same destinations. “Bringing the airlines together and rationalising their routes and rationalising the kind of aircraft needed at a particular time of day – that is the experience we are beginning to learn from different airlines across the world,” he said.
