Winter at Makumu

African winters are generally mild, and this is no different in the Klaserie. The drier weather causes the bush to thin out, which makes this one of the best times for a safari and has allowed us to have spotted some great game recently!

Game drives are pleasant this time of year with temperatures still reaching around 20 degrees Celsius.  Due to the dry weather, the wildlife often congregate around the watering hole, allowing for some great sightings. We have put together a few special offers below should the safari bug bite, to tempt you to come and visit us before the end of September!

Our new Tented  Bush Camp option is available in the winter months until September 2018 for those with an adventurous side!

What better way to celebrate a safari than spending a night out under the African sky with a crackling campfire, open-air bucket showers, our legendary bush hospitality and top quality guiding.

All at Makumu are overjoyed with the recent discovery of two 6-month old leopard cubs on the concession. Since the first surprise encounter, the cubs (sexes unknown) have been seen regularly along the Melembeni and Xidulu riverbeds, secluded and hidden in the thick and tangled vegetation.

With numerous impala in the area, these are ideal hunting grounds for mom as she expertly provides meals, hoisting kills in trees and out of reach of hyena and lion.

The cubs are flourishing and growing fast, and although never far from mom, are becoming more adventurous and independent with every encounter. It’s a privilege indeed to be able to view the next generation of these beautiful silent predators! Please look out for more newsletters about their progress!
