Fancourt Newsflash – 30 October 2018

FURTHER UPDATE: GEORGE WILDFIRES

With wildfires continuing to burn on the Outeniqua mountains, winds picked up around Fancourt early this morning, driving the fire towards the Links golf course, the Fancourt Hotel and The Manor House.
Firefighters and members of the support services and ground teams worked through the night to get the fire once more under control and keep our residents, guests and staff safe.  They were helped in the early hours of this morning by rain that was truly heaven-sent.

All three golf courses at Fancourt have reopened and it’s very much business as usual today, but we will continue to monitor the situation and keep everyone updated.

Whilst many of the fires have been contained, there are smouldering fires and the area is still prone to ongoing flare-ups.  There are no words to express how grateful we are for the firefighter’s commitment and fortitude and we’d like to appeal to all of our friends and colleagues both in South Africa and across the world to assist in donating to these incredibly courageous and dedicated men and women who have risked their lives to help protect this beautiful area and the people and wildlife who call it home.

All donations towards the firefighting efforts should be delivered to the George Fire Brigade at Mitchell Street, which is in need of the following:

Smaller bottles of water for the firefighters
Juices/energy drinks
Lip ice/Vaseline
Wet wipes
Rehydrate
Chocolate/energy bars

Kind Regards
