Renovating Wild Horizons’ Flagship – The Elephant Camp

Renovating Wild Horizons’ Flagship

~ The Elephant Camp ~

The Elephant Camp, in 2018, was awarded a spot on the TripAdvisor Traveller’s Choice accolades for the 7th consecutive year.

As testament to The Elephant Camp’s commitment to providing unmatched luxury accommodation, the highest level of service and the modern facilities that appeal to today’s discerning global traveller, the camp has embarked on an extensive upgrade in 2019, signifying the most substantial enhancement project since its inception.

Craig White, Wild Horizons Chief Operating Officer will lead the renovation program, bringing with him extensive knowledge of the camp, its structure, history and unique surroundings. “Our aim is to maintain the rich history and character of the camp, while renovating it to the highest industry standards and minimising any negative impact on the environment.” White commented.

The refurbishment of the camp will be focused on upgrading guest suites and communal areas as well as front-of-house service areas. The refreshed Elephant Camp will see the addition of a luxury spa and gym.

The Elephant Camp was awarded a Green Tourism Silver grading in February 2016. The planned refurbishment will further assist us in achieving the highest standards of sustainability. All decks will be replaced with environmentally friendly decking (Forest Stewardship Council – FSC certified – consisting of 60% bamboo fibres and 40% recycled plastics, that would otherwise end up in landfills). All geysers will be replaced with solar.

The Elephant Camp Main and West will be closed from 28 January to 28 February 2019 (Inclusive) during which the bulk of the refurbishment will be completed. We believe that the impact on the guests experience during the months of March and April will be absolutely minimal if at all. During this period, The Elephant Camp will remain open with a compliment of 10 rooms. The entire refurbishment project will be complete by mid April 2019.
